Erica Soltero is an Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Medicine and a behavioral scientist focused on developing digital health interventions that promote active living among high-risk adolescents. Her work aims to prevent cardiometabolic diseases, including type 2 diabetes, by improving physical activity through technology-enabled strategies. She has led studies using wearable health devices, AI/ML computing, digital agents, and mobile phone applications to enhance physical activity promotion. Community engagement is the backbone of her research: she works collaboratively with youth to ensure that digital approaches are feasible, relevant, and aligned with adolescents’ needs in their own contexts. Her lab integrates interactive qualitative and quantitative methods with evidence-based behavior change techniques to guide the development, implementation, and testing of digital disease-prevention strategies. As a 2026 MAPCI Fellow, Soltero joins a community advancing rigorous methods for developing and evaluating interventions in cancer prevention and control.
