Elizabeth Salerno is an Assistant Professor of Applied Exercise Science and Director of the Healthy Aging after Cancer Laboratory (HACL) at the University of Michigan. Prior to her role at Michigan, she was an Assistant Professor in the Division of Public Health Sciences, Department of Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Her research examines how lifestyle behaviors, particularly physical activity and structured exercise, can support healthy aging during cancer survivorship. She studies how individuals age after cancer and investigates ways that physical activity may improve key survivorship outcomes, including cognitive function, mobility, and psychosocial health. Through this work, she aims to identify actionable strategies that can be integrated into survivorship care to promote long-term well-being. As a 2026 MAPCI Fellow, Salerno joins a community advancing rigorous methods for cancer prevention and control research.
