Cinzia Caparso is an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in the College of Nursing at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. She earned a PhD in Nursing from Wayne State University in 2022 and completed a T32 postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center focused on cancer care delivery. Her research centers on designing and testing innovative communication interventions that engage patients with cancer, caregivers, and children. Across her work, she is especially interested in how communication can strengthen family resilience and help families meet basic human needs during serious illness. Methodologically, she draws on mixed methods and intervention mapping to develop, refine, and evaluate intervention components. Her long-term goal is to build an independent program of research that advances communication innovations to improve family communication and reduce negative mood among families raising young children while managing cancer and other chronic conditions. As a 2026 MAPCI Fellow, Caparso joins a community focused on rigorous methods for optimizing and evaluating interventions in cancer prevention and control.
